Chesterfield's Darkest Day: The 1977 Pottery Cottage Murders

In this off-season episode, I bring you the story of the murders of Amy Minton, Arthur Minton, Richard Moran and Sarah Moran in a case commonly referred to as the Pottery Cottage murders.

As told by my guest Sally-Anne Martyn, this case has fallen somewhat under the radar, given it took place slap-bang in the middle of the Yorkshire Ripper's killing spree.

Escaped convict William Hughes held five members of the Minton/Moran family hostage for over 50+ hours, killing all but Gill Moran.

Hughes attempted to escape once the police were informed, but a shootout followed, leaving him dead at the hands of Derbyshire Constabulary. He was the first person to be shot dead by that particular force.

Author

Sally-Anne grew up in a small village just outside Sheffield and comes from a working-class background.

Her writing is inspired by those women who are constantly left on the sidelines and ignored.

Sally-Anne takes the underdog, allows her the freedom to do what she wants (good or bad) and sees where it takes her.

With a diet of 'Hammer House' and 'Tales of the Unexpected' as a child, along with a love for the ridiculous, it is no surprise that her books have chilling themes with a hint of dark humour.
